Juniors, U10–U19

Ramblers runs teams for boys and girls from Under 10s to Under 19s, at every level from the Junior Premier League down to Division 6. If your child has never touched a basketball, there is a team for them. If they are already good, there is a team for that too.

You don't need to know anything about basketball

Most of our new families arrive with no basketball background at all. Trials are obligation free — your child turns up, plays for an hour or so, and we use what we see to place them in a team with players of a similar standard. There is no cut and no pressure. Coaches and team managers are parents like you, and someone will walk you through the first few weeks.

Age groups

Teams run in two-year age bands from Under 10 through Under 19, for boys and girls. Age is calculated as at 31 December of the year the competition concludes. If your child sits near a boundary, or is playing up or down for a good reason, talk to us. We sort this out every season.

Age bands: U10 · U12 · U14 · U16 · U19 — boys and girls in every band.

How trials work

Junior trials run twice a year, in August and again in February, before teams are nominated into divisions. Junior Premier League trials are held in August. The sequence is the same every time:

  1. Leave an enquiry — two minutes, tells us which session to expect your child at.
  2. Come to a session — sports clothes, court shoes, a basketball and a water bottle.
  3. We place your child — grouped by standard, then teams are nominated into divisions.
  4. Team lists go out — the committee sends team lists from our own app.

What it costs

A season fee covers training, coaching, Basketball ACT registration. There will be a one-off uniform cost in the first year for juniors and senior social. Current figures are published on the fees page and are set for each season.

Paying by direct debit

Fees can be paid in equal regular payments across the year rather than in one lump. No child misses a season over cost — talk to the committee in confidence.

Where you'll be

Training is in and around Belconnen between Monday and Thursday. Junior games are on Saturdays and Sundays at Basketball ACT venues across Canberra. Your team manager sends the week's venues and times before each round, and Basketball ACT publishes the full draw which is also accessible on our Draws and Results page.
