Ramblers runs senior basketball two ways — Senior Premier League for players wanting a competitive, representative-standard season, and open social teams for everyone else. Both are open to men, women and mixed lineups.
Social basketball doesn't need a trial
If you're after social basketball, there's no tryout and no season-long commitment test — turn up to training, and we'll find you a team at the right level. Plenty of our social players haven't picked up a basketball since school. Senior Premier League is the one exception: squads there are selected by invitation, based on our culture and standards.
SPL vs social
Senior Premier League is our representative-standard competition, playing Wednesday and Thursday nights. Squads are chosen by invitation from players who have shown they belong at that level, including current SPL players and standouts from our social competition.
Social is open men's, women's and mixed teams playing Monday to Thursday nights, open to new players almost any week of the year regardless of experience.
How to join
Leave an enquiry and tell us your experience level and which nights suit. For social basketball we'll invite you along to our training sessions and look for an appropriate spot on a team. For Senior Premier League interest, we'll let you know when the next squad selection is coming up.
What it costs
A season fee covering training court hire, and Basketball ACT registration and insurance is payable. Current figures are published on the fees page and are set for each season.
Fees can be paid in equal regular payments across the year rather than in one lump. Talk to the committee in confidence if cost is a barrier.
Where you'll be
Training is in and around Belconnen between Monday and Thursday. Senior Social is played in the Belconnen area. SPL can play across Canberra. Your team manager sends the week's venues and times before each round, and Basketball ACT publishes the full draw which is also accessible on our Draws and Results page.
